I downloaded Ubuntu Jaunty – installed well, sound and net worked.
And I won’t have to worry about cooling issues if I upgrade to quad core processor in the future. Thanks in advance for any info.

My parts have not arrived as yet, but I will report back in the coming weeks on how this build goes. I had the same mindset as the original poster as to not encountering problems on that level. It looks like it will be a very nice GUI in the future however.

It works, but it’s a bit buggy and not nearly as configurable as the mature KDE 3. Reducing the commit time means that I may lose two minutes worth of data on the system partition in the event of power failure, etc.
Over on the p5q thread, cob suggested this was because the linux kernel had not been updated for p45 boards yet – not sure if this is correct.

The build was uneventful. Not sure if you are putting linux on as part of a brand new build, but if you are then i advise that you stay away from the asus xonar DX sound card – it is not yet compatible with ubuntu, although seems to work fine with some linux distros cannot remember which ones. However, after tweaking those BIOS options, things assus working fine. I am insterested with this Motherboard. I used Midnight Commander at this point, but if you’re comfortable with editing files proceed as follows: Log in or Sign up.
This step compiling and installing the ethernet kernel module must be repeated after each kernel update. Also, the manufacturer is taking a very active role in developing the firmware, so I’m sure full AHCI support is coming.
